Mt. St. Joseph's Lewnes pins his way to Preps title

Mount St. Joseph's Sam Lewnes got his third pin of the tournament in 1 minute, 40 seconds over Blair Academy's Matt Vorees to win a National Preps Tournament title yesterday at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Lewnes, a junior who placed fifth and third two previous years, earned one of his two decisions in the tournament in the semifinals over a four-time Massachusetts state champion.

Area runners-up in the tournament were Curley's Mark Frey (119), Mount St. Joseph's Aaron Herwig (130), McDonogh's Zak Johns (140) and Boys' Latin's Jerome Featherstone (152); third-place finishers were Boys' Latin's Henry Blue (119) and McDonogh wrestlers Chet Naylor (125) and Geoff Miller (171); fourth-place finishers were Bruce Dulski (103) and Tim Bohlman (125) of Mount St. Joseph, McDonogh's Travis Holmes (145) and Curley's Rob Miller (160).
