POSTCARD FROM SALT LAKE CITY

Salt Lake City 2002

February 19, 2002|By Candus Thomson

The boy in red is a babe magnet.

Ryne Sanborn, the local 13-year-old who skated as the "Child of Light" in the opening ceremony last week, says that since his performance, "I've gotten a million notes. A lot of girls ask me out."

Sanborn, who hopes to be a professional hockey player when he grows up, didn't mind the red costume or being chased around by giant icicles.

As a matter of fact, he'll suit up again for the closing ceremony, this time skating with two-time Olympic gold medalist Katarina Witt, no slouch in the looks department either.
