Police seeking man who approached girl, 8

February 17, 2002

Authorities are seeking a man who approached an 8-year-old girl Thursday evening in the 6500 block of Tamar Drive in Columbia, Howard County police said Friday.

The suspect, described as a black male between 18 and 25 years old and 5 feet 8 inches tall, walked toward the girl about 6 p.m. and asked her to "come over" to him, police said.

He was wearing black clothing, including a baseball cap, leather jacket, baggy pants, shirt and boots, and had a closely shaved mustache and goatee, police said.

The girl, who had been playing outside, ran to her 12-year-old sister nearby, and both girls told their mother about the incident, police said.
