A man was killed yesterday afternoon when his car was struck head-on by a vehicle that crossed the median of Route 216 in North Laurel, Howard County police said.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of relatives. The two occupants of the other car were seriously injured.

Police said the crash occurred about 12:40 p.m. when an Infiniti Q45 driven by Sherry Turner, 23, of Germantown crossed the grass median and struck the man's Chrysler Cirrus, which landed in a ditch.

The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead about 2 p.m. at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

Turner and a passenger in her vehicle, Flora Simmons, 21, also of Germantown, were listed in serious condition last night at Shock Trauma.

Police said excessive speed on the wet roadway appeared to have contributed to the collision.
