Russian singers among performers in free concert series

Mayo United Methodist Church will hold a series of free concerts, including a performance tomorrow by a Russian vocal group, in the next several weeks in its sanctuary at 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater.

The St. Petersburg Vocal Ensemble Russicum will perform sacred works and Russian and Ukrainian folk songs at the concert, the first stop on the group's spring tour of the United States. On Feb. 17, Alexandra Chappell and Marcia Diehl, who regularly perform with the U.S. Naval Academy Band, will present a recital of clarinet music including works by Brahms and Gershwin.

Harpist Michelle Myers Lundy and flautist Kimberly Valerio will perform the music of Debussy and Bach on March 10. The final concert of the series, on April 20, is to be recorded for a new CD by Dave Reynolds, a music professor and guitarist who has performed at Washington's Kennedy Center and in recital at St. Peter's Church in New York.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. A free will offering will be taken at each concert to support the artists and future music programs at the church.
