The bank within the Safeway grocery store at Bethany Lane and U.S. 40 in Ellicott City was robbed Tuesday evening, Howard County police reported yesterday.

A man described as a clean-shaven white male in his late 30s to early 40s demanded money from an employee at the SunTrust Bank about 5:40 p.m., according to a police report.

The suspect was wearing a black hat, black coat and black pants and had short hair, police said. He implied that he had a weapon, although none was displayed.

The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
