Meeting on Hampstead plan scheduled tonight at school

Carroll County and Hampstead are updating the comprehensive plan for the Hampstead community.

A public information meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today at Shiloh Middle School, 3675 Willow St., as part of a 60-day review before a public hearing on the plan.

A presentation describing the plan and its purpose will be given at the meeting.

County staff will discuss changes to the current plan and issues and concerns addressed by the plan. Staff also will answer questions from residents, who are urged to attend.

The plan can be reviewed in advance at Hampstead Town Office or North Carroll library branch.

Carroll Promenaders plan circus square dance

Carroll Promenaders, a local modern western square dance club, will hold a Circus Theme square dance from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at North Carroll High School.

The cost is $4. Youths are welcome. The level is multilevel 2X2. Doren McBroom is caller.

Square dance attire with a circus theme is requested.

Singing valentine deal: three love songs for $20

North Carroll High School Vocal Ensemble will offer singing valentines for those wishing to have a loved one serenaded.

Students will visit homes or businesses Saturday. The $20 package includes three love songs and a rose.

Pancake supper set for Shrove Tuesday

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester will hold a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the church hall.

The cost will be $6 and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Entertainment will be provided.

Proceeds will benefit the church's youth and family ministry.

North Carroll boosters schedule basket bingo

North Carroll High School Choral Boosters will hold Longaberger Basket Bingo in the school cafeteria Feb. 15.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Food, drinks and desserts will be available. Games will begin at 7 p.m.

Valentine stories, Internet on agenda at library branch

North Carroll library branch, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer the following programs:

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears Puppet Show" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) at 6:45 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday. Children can take a teddy bear for stories about Goldilocks and her misadventures at Bear Cottage.

"Valentine Story Time" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) at 10 a.m. Saturday. North Carroll High School Honor Society will tell stories and provide a craft.

North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. Monday to discuss Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Registration is required.

"Introduction to the Internet" for adults starting to use the Internet at 7 p.m. Tuesday and at 10 a.m. Feb. 16.

"Winnie the Pooh" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 14 and 10 a.m. Feb. 15. Bear songs, stories and crafts will be featured.

"American Girls Night" for ages 7 to 10 at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 21. North Carroll High School National Honor Society members will present American Girl stories, theater skits and crafts. Children may take their dolls and dress up if they wish. Registration is required.

Church news

Lazarus United Church of Christ: Worship with Holy Communion will be at 10 a.m. Sunday with the Rev. Verna Call's sermon, "The Glory of God." The adult choir and Gospel Gang will provide music. The church is at 5101 S. Church St., Lineboro. Information: 410-374-1304.

Grace United Methodist: For Lent, the church will hold a vespers service each Wednesday evening starting Feb. 13, Ash Wednesday. Services will focus on meditation and prayer. The church will hold a Valentine Celebration and dedicate the new kitchen at 6 p.m. Feb. 16. A ham dinner will be served. The cost is $2 and $1 for children and tickets are requested in advance. Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m. and worship is at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday. A program for children in kindergarten through fourth grade is held the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
