Rotary clubs seek sponsors for April fund-raiser

Anne Arundel County's eight Rotary clubs are looking for sponsors for a mock video horse race, Rotary Raises Stakes for Charity, to be held April 20 at Laurel Park.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of a dental van that will visit preschools, day care centers, senior centers, assisted living and elder care facilities, and homes in the county to provide dental care for people who lack access to such services. The county Health Department will supply dental staff and supplies and will maintain the vehicle.

Entertainment and food will be provided.

Bird tour: Patuxent Research Refuge will offer a guided bird tour from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 17 and a Signs of Spring guided walk from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 24 at North Tract, Route 198 between Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Route 32. Information and registration: 301-497-5887.

Breakfast mixer: The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a breakfast mixer from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 28 at Applebee's restaurant, 2408 Brandermill Blvd., Gambrills. Butch Fest: Anne Arundel High School's annual Butch Fest will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight March 2 at the Comfort Inn BWI in Linthicum. The event is a reunion of students from the classes of 1978 through 1983 to honor the late Butch Kirby, Class of 1980, a member of the school's athletic Hall of Fame. Food, drinks and a disc jockey will be featured. The cost is $22. Proceeds will go to Sept. 11 relief funds and toward a scholarship in Kirby's name at Arundel High School. Flower show: Registration is being accepted for the Fort Meade Post Garden Club's trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 4. Cost of the bus ride is $20 for club members and $25 for nonmembers. The $17.50 fee for the show will be collected on the bus, which will depart from Jessup Community Hall at 8:45 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. Bus fare, payable with registration, will not be refunded after Feb. 11. Baseball camp: Arundel High School will hold its 12th annual baseball and softball camp for children ages 7 to 14 from 9 a.m. to noon March 23. Each camper will receive small-group instruction, lunch and a T-shirt. The cost is $25. Information: 410-721-9646.
