Nominations sought for teacher awards

Nominations for the 14th annual Outstanding Teacher Awards are being accepted until Feb. 25 at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

The awards recognize the men and women in the Carroll County Public Schools who represent the best in teaching professionals. Students, parents, the community and fellow teachers may make nominations.

Any full-time teacher in the public school system may be nominated, except recipients of the 2001 awards.

Nomination forms are available at all public schools, public library branches and the chamber office, 247 E. Main St. in Westminster.

Forms ask for specific examples of how a teacher helps students apply what they have learned and and how the teacher inspires students to learn and build confidence and self-esteem.

Teams of judges of retired teachers and the community review the nominations. Nominees will be recognized at a chamber banquet April 22 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers. Eight special award recipients will receive a plaque and cash.

This year, the eight winners will be the group from which the Carroll County Teacher of the Year will be chosen. That winner will be the representative for the Maryland Teacher of the Year Program.
