Police find gun in car owned by victim of fatal shooting

Anne Arundel County police said yesterday they have recovered a gun from the car of a Glen Burnie woman who was found shot to death last month. The car was found Wednesday in a Baltimore parking garage.

Police officials said the gun would be processed to determine whether it was used in the fatal shootings of Laverne Browning, 70, a Glen Burnie tavern owner, and Tamie Browning, her 36-year-old daughter-in-law.

The gun was found in Laverne Browning's 2000 black Monte Carlo, which was in a downtown parking garage.

City and county police had been searching for the car since the women's bodies were found Jan. 14 in the trunk of the younger woman's car, abandoned in a parking lot of a Glen Burnie apartment complex.

Police would not release details about the weapon.

Kenneth E. Abend, a 39-year-old Glen Burnie man who had rented a room from Laverne Browning, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held without bail at Anne Arundel County Detention Center in Annapolis.
