A Prince George's County man was arrested downtown yesterday in the kidnapping of a 3-year-old girl and threat of harm to her father if he did not return a pit bull, police said.

David Able, 19, of the 5400 block of Ludlow Drive, Temple Hills, was charged with kidnapping, assault, armed robbery and handgun offenses. The incident started about 6 p.m. Wednesday when Chaun Walker, 28, was picking up his daughter, Shayla, from day care on White Avenue in Northeast Baltimore, police said.

Walker had put Shayla into his car when a gunman with two other men approached from a Jeep Cherokee and forced Walker into it. They drove the Jeep and Walker's car to Putty Hill Avenue in Baltimore County, where Walker was freed but Shayla was taken.

About 1 p.m. yesterday, Shayla was freed at a gas station at St. Paul Street and Mount Royal Avenue, and Able was arrested several blocks away.
