January 31, 2002|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Washington man was injured when equipment he was working with hit power lines yesterday near Dorsey Run and Guilford roads in North Laurel, authorities said.

William Donnell Hunter, 39, an employee of Earth Engineering and Science Inc. in Baltimore, was mounting machinery with a boom when it touched an overhead electrical wire about 10:40 a.m., Howard County police said.

He suffered burns on his arms and a wound on his right leg, police said. Hunter was taken by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in critical condition last evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

No one else was injured, police said.

Maryland Occupational Safety and Health officials are investigating the incident. Earth Engineering and Science Inc. officials did not return phone calls late yesterday.
