Public work sessions on superintendent's proposed budget set

The Howard County Board of Education will hold public work sessions on the superintendent's proposed operating budget for fiscal year 2003 at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5, 12 and 19 in the board room at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

A regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Department of Education. The afternoon session and an evening session at 7:30 p.m. will begin with a public forum, in which people may address the board.

Nominations being taken for school board award

The Howard County Board of Education is accepting nominations for its Friends of Education Award to honor people, businesses or organizations for contributing to the school system's mission of excellence in learning.

Any Howard County resident or any group, organization or business in or serving the county may be nominated. Completed nominations should be returned by Feb. 15 to the executive assistant to the Board of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City 21042.

Nominees and recipients of the award will be notified by March 15. Awards will be presented April 11.

Reflections Program winners to be announced

Entries in the PTA Council of Howard County's Reflections Program competition will be on view from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at River Hill High School, 12101 Route 108, Clarksville.

The top four entries from elementary, middle and high schools in each of the five categories - music, dance, literature, photography and visual arts - will be announced at 8 p.m.

The winning entries will proceed to the state competition.
