A winning salad

Looking for a salad to go with your Super Bowl entrM-ie? Here's a suggestion from the ESPN Zone in Baltimore: Combine 5 cups of lettuce mix, 1 sliced Granny Smith apple, 1/4 cup each of blue cheese and raisins, and 3 ounces of cider vinaigrette dressing. Place on plate and garnish with 1/4 cup of candied walnuts and 1 teaspoon of diced roasted red peppers.

Celebrating Valentine's

While your thoughts may be on football, it isn't too early to be thinking of Valentine's Day.

NextDayGourmet.com has some accessories to make the day more sweet: a chocolate fondue set for $143.75; a cream whipper, $86.25; and, to enliven your salad or dessert, a pound of edible snapdragons for $16.

Design competition

If you're the artistic sort, here's a chance to have your work on posters, T-shirts and brochures. The Carroll County Farm Museum and Carroll County Arts Council are holding a design competition for the Maryland Wine Festival poster for 2002. Entries must be submitted by March 15. For details, call 410-848-7272 or 410-876-8550.
