PHILLIES: Signed free-agent OF John Mabry, who had been with Marlins, to minor-league contract and invited him to major-league camp.

PIRATES: Named Larry Silverman VP and baseball legal counsel.

RANGERS: Agreed to one-year contracts with P Ismael Valdes, who had been with Angels. Agreed to minor-league contract with P Rudy Seanez and invited him to major-league camp.

TIGERS: Agreed to minor-league contract with P Billy Simas, who had been with White Sox, and invited him to major-league camp.

FORT WORTH (INDEPENDENT): Named Maury Wills VP of special projects.

Basketball

NBA: Named 76ers G Allen Iverson Player of the Week.
