Anne Arundel Community College drama students Jessica Hyman of Severna Park and George Johnson of Pasadena reached the semifinal round in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition at the regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in early January at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. They were two of 32 semifinalists out of 192 student actors.

Region Two includes colleges and universities in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C.

This year's regional competition drew students from 61 colleges and universities.

This is the first time in the college's 28 years of participating that two students have reached the semifinal round, said Robert E. Kauffman, professor and department chairman for performing arts at AACC.

Members of AACC's stage managing crew also were recognized. David Johney of Pasadena was chosen as stage manager for one of the student-directed scenes, and Katie Roundy of Pasadena was named assistant stage manager for the reading of the winning full-length new play.
