BOYS

Tyler Smith

Douglass, basketball

The 6-foot-2 senior guard continues to be a catalyst for the Ducks.

At the Mayor's Academy tournament over the weekend at the Coppin Center, Smith registered 10 points, three rebounds and three steals in a 48-47 win over Martin Luther King of Philadelphia and 28 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two steals in a 68-64 victory over Overbrook of Philadelphia.

Smith also posted 19 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds against No. 8 Lake Clifton when the game was suspended in the third quarter.

Smith, who is averaging 27 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists, is a big reason why the Ducks are 13-0 and ranked No. 1 by The Sun.

GIRLS

Emily Bollinger

Westminster, basketball

The 6-foot-1 sophomore forward scored 37 points, shot 55 percent from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Owls to a pair of Central Maryland Conference victories last week.

Bollinger scored 19 on 50 percent shooting and had five rebounds in a 71-64 win that dealt Frederick its first conference loss in two years. She also hit five of seven free throws in the contest.

A first-team All-Carroll County selection as a freshman, Bollinger scored 18 and grabbed six rebounds in a 72-32 romp over Linganore.

Bollinger, who also plays field hockey and tennis, averages 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals. She is shooting 47 percent for the season.
