MARC's Penn Line sets new schedules Jan. 28

The Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) Penn Line trains will have new schedules in effect Jan. 28 aimed at providing more seats in the morning and evening rush hours and to mesh with increased Amtrak Express service.

Ridership on the line has grown 35 percent. Almost 15,000 of MARC's 25,000 daily riders use the Penn Line each weekday.

Highlights of the schedule changes include:

Evening rush hour service from Baltimore's Penn Station and BWI Rail Station to New Carrollton and Washington will add two southbound express trains at 5:20 p.m. and 6:10 p.m.

Northbound departures after 6 p.m. will be rescheduled to reduce the gaps between trains later in the evening. Trains will depart Washington for Baltimore at 6:20 p.m., 7:20 p.m., 8:40 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. Monthly and weekly ticket holders will continue to have the option of riding Amtrak train 196, leaving Washington at 10:45 p.m. to Odenton, BWI, Baltimore and Aberdeen.
