Navy rallies to take lead, falls back in loss to Lehigh

Navy's women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to take the lead before dropping a 52-51 decision to Lehigh in a Patriot League game last night at Alumni Hall.

Navy struggled in the first half, scoring a season-low 19 points and shooting just 24.2 percent, and trailed 31-19 at the break.

Lehigh (6-10, 2-1) led by as many as 13 in the second half before Navy (8-8, 0-3) started its comeback. The Mids eventually took a three-point lead at 49-46 with just under six minutes to play.

The lead changed hands three times in the last six minutes, with Lehigh taking a 52-51 lead on Billi Ford's field goal with 1:19 to play. Navy had several opportunities to take the lead, including the last shot of the game, but fell short.

Navy's defense held Lehigh to just 21 points in the second half and to 28.6-percent shooting after halftime.

Bryanna Herring had 21 points for Navy, and Catherine Dunn scored a career-high 10.

Western Maryland 49, Gettysburg 48: Jen Piccolomini made two free throws with 52 seconds left and scored a game-high 23 points as the Green Terror (11-3, 5-1) beat the host Bullets (7-8, 3-4) in a Centennial Conference game.

Muhlenberg 86, Washington College 59: The Mules (13-0, 5-0) collected 30 offensive rebounds in a defeat of the Shorewomen (7-7, 2-4) in the Centennial Conference.

Notre Dame 57, Hood 54: Karen Burley scored 15 points and Gabrielle Ferrell added 10 points and 11 rebounds to push the visiting Gators (7-6, 5-0) past the Blazers (7-4, 1-1) in the Atlantic Women's College Conference.

York 78, Goucher 51: Kate Guggino scored a game-high 23 points but the Gophers (4-8, 2-3) could not get past the host Spartans (10-5, 5-0) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Mary Baldwin 47, Villa Julie 25: The Mustangs (2-12) committed 35 turnovers in a loss to the visiting Fighting Squirrels (3-10). Alyssa Phoebus scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds for Villa Julie.

Marymount 76, St. Mary's 38: The Seahawks (2-11, 0-5) were held to 23 percent shooting and were outrebounded 61-33 in a CAC loss to the host Saints (12-4, 4-1).

Salisbury 90, Gallaudet 48: Amy Campion scored a game-high 23 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Sea Gulls (12-2, 5-0 CAC) cruised past the Bison (4-11, 1-4).
