BOYS

Frankie Wright

Mervo, Indoor track

The 6-foot junior won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 8 inches and the triple jump with one of 44-9 at last weekend's Montgomery County Invitational Indoor track meet at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Center.

Wright also ran the third leg of the Mustangs' winning 800-meter relay team, with Jabari Bush, Damon Watson and his cousin Ronald Wright. The group crossed the finish line in 1 minute, 32.1 seconds.

A defending state champion outdoors in the triple jump, Wright is ranked nationally fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

GIRLS

Towson, basketball

The junior scored a career-high 23 points and twice matched her career high of 20 rebounds while rolling up 54 points and 50 rebounds in three wins last week.

The 5-foot-11 forward hit 23 in Friday's 56-34 upset of previously unbeaten Parkville. She also grabbed 10 rebounds as the Generals (8-4) pulled within a game of Baltimore County's Division I leader.

Earlier in the week, Kines scored 12 points and had 20 rebounds in a 53-34 victory at Loch Raven. She then scored 19 and had 20 rebounds in a 59-33 win over Dulaney. She is averaging 15.2 points and 13.8 rebounds.

As an All-Metro player, Kines helped the Generals to the Class 2A state volleyball title in November.
