O'Malley to speak at Democratic dinner planned for March 9

January 16, 2002

Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley will be the speaker at Carroll County Democrats' annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner March 9.

"We are just thrilled that the mayor is coming," said Sue Hoffman, a Carroll County Democratic Club member who is helping to organize the dinner. "He is a really dynamic personality and we have asked him to speak on whatever topic he chooses."

The Jefferson-Jackson dinner is a spring tradition among Democratic clubs across the country and honors key founding members of the party.

Sponsored locally by the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee and the Democratic Club, the event usually draws the party's statewide leaders, including Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes, who addressed the group last year.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door of Martin's Westminster in 140 Village Shopping Center. The evening, which opens with a cash bar at 6 p.m., includes a silent auction and a raffle. O'Malley will speak at 7 p.m.

"With Sarbanes last year and O'Malley this year, we must be on a roll," said Laura O'Callaghan, county Democratic Club president.
