Seminar offered on benefits, pitfalls of owning a franchise

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center will sponsor a seminar - "Is Franchising for You?" - from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Center for Business & Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

Marketing specialist Lee Meizlesh will discuss how franchising works, the fundamentals of buying an affordable new or existing franchise, why franchising is successful, how to select the right industry and franchise, avoiding pitfalls, and other topics.

The cost is $25. Registration is required.

Chambers of commerce plan networking mixer

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce will hold a joint mixer with Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Columbia Hilton, 5450 Twin Knolls Road.

The cost is $10 for chamber members; prospective members pay $20. A cash bar will be available.
