Krebs, Ecker set meeting for Tuesday at Hampstead school

School Board President Susan W. Krebs and interim Superintendent of Schools Charles I. Ecker will hold a town meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hampstead Elementary School, 3737 Shiloh Road.

The purpose of the meeting is to foster an open dialogue with parents and the community. The public is welcome to the meeting to voice concerns or ask questions about education matters.

School board to hold public meetings on budget

The Board of Education will hold a series of public meetings to present and take comments on the operating budget for the public school system for the 2002-2003 school year.

The following meetings are scheduled:

Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster. Interim Superintendent Charles I. Ecker will present the proposed budget to the school board.

Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at Runnymede Elementary School, 3000 Langdon Drive, near Taneytown. The proposed budget will be presented.

Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at Century High School, 355 Ronsdale Road, near Winfield. The proposed budget will be presented.

Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road. The school board will present and adopt the proposed budget.

Individuals needing auxiliary aids or services should request them in advance.

Registration for spring continues at college

Melissa Fogle of Westminster won a Dell computer for registering early for spring classes at Carroll Community College's Dec. 5 open house.

The college held the drawing as an incentive to students to register early.

Spring registration continues from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through Feb. 1. A Saturday registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26.

Knights of Columbus offer college scholarship

Knights of Columbus Council 7612 of Sykesville will offer the Robert H. Clark Memorial Scholarship this year to a senior from Liberty or South Carroll High School.

The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually.

Eligible students must be the child of a parent who either lives within the boundaries of Liberty or South Carroll high schools, is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Community in Eldersburg or is a member (or was a member at the time of death) of Council 7612.

Applications must be postmarked by March 31.

Carroll County Public Schools offers the External Diploma Program, a self-paced alternative to the General Educational Development test. Information sessions on the program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and at 9 a.m. Thursday at Student Support Services/Carroll Adult Learning Connection, 1135 Business Parkway South, Suite 30, Westminster. FOCAS, Families of Children with Autism Support Group, will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at CHANGE Inc., 115 Stoner Ave., Westminster. Child care is available, but reservations must be made by Tuesday by calling 410-876-2179. Information: 410- 857-1596.
