Firefighter exhibit to be part of county birthday celebration

The Historical Society of Carroll County will celebrate the county's 165th birthday with an exhibit on the history of Carroll's volunteer fire service.

The program will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Best Western Catering and Conference Center on Route 140 in Westminster.

"Celebrating the History of Carroll's Volunteer Fire Service" will showcase the county's 14 fire companies. Several fire companies will present displays.

Local elected officials and representatives from the Maryland state fire marshal's office have been invited.

Refreshments will be served. The program is open to the public.

Parents Without Partners welcomes new members

Parents Without Partners Carroll County Chapter 935 holds regular meetings and activities for adults and the family and welcomes new members.

To be eligible for membership, adults must be the single parent of a living child. Custody of children is not a requirement for membership.

An orientation for prospective members is held at 1 p.m. the third Sunday of every month at Westminster United Methodist Church, Main and Center streets.

The group holds business and family meetings throughout the month, such as calendar planning, newsletter workshops and board meetings. A series of new-member discussions on dating, relationships and single parenting also is offered.

Members hold adults-only activities and family activities such as bowling outings, trips to the movies, biking trips, swimming and dining.
