Hopkins women rout Bryn Mawr, rise to 12-1

Monmouth went on an early 15-0 run and never trailed again as the Hawks dropped Mount St. Mary's, 75-63, in a Northeast Conference matchup in West Long Branch, N.J., yesterday.

With the Mount trailing 37-27 at the half, Jamion Christian connected on four straight three-pointers to cut the deficit to 43-37.

But that was as close as the Mountaineers (1-11, 0-5) would come as Monmouth (8-6, 4-1) then pulled away.

Mount St. Mary's was led by Christian with 23 points. Jerry Lloyd contributed 11 and Pat Atangana 10.

The Hawks were led by Jason Krayl, who had 23 points and seven assists.

UMBC 87, Fairleigh Dickinson 72: Rob Gogerty scored 15 points to lead the Retrievers (7-5, 3-2) over the Knights (1-13, 1-4) in an NEC game.

Western Maryland 91, Haverford 63: Jack Kowalik led the Green Terror with a game-high 17 points and Adam Hynes scored 12 of his 14 in the first half as Western Maryland cruised past the Fords in a Centennial Conference game.

Teron Powell and Jon Pearson contributed 10 points apiece for the Terror.

Juniata 80, Villa Julie 61: Brian Hubbard scored 14 points and Melvin Bridges added 12 as the Mustangs (6-7) fell to the Eagles (8-4).

Dave Reddick and Travis Martin scored 23 each for the victors.

Fayetteville State 68, Bowie State 64: Cornelius McMurray scored 18, but the Bulldogs (8-5) fell to the Broncos (7-3).

Women

Johns Hopkins 89, Bryn Mawr 43: Kathy Darling led a balanced scoring attack, scoring 17 points as the Blue Jays (12-1, 4-0) routed the Mawrters (2-11, 0-6) in a Centennial Conference game.

After back-and-forth action in the game's first five minutes, Hopkins scored 23 of the next 30 points to take a 39-19 lead with 5:58 remaining in the half.

Villa Julie 70, Rosemont 36: Alyssa Phoebus scored 14 points and had 15 rebounds to spark the Mustangs (2-9) over the Ramblers (2-9).

Stephanie Giles scored 12 points and Amy Sibiski and Katie Dickel each added 10 in the victory, which ended Villa Julie's nine-game losing streak.

James Madison 64, Towson 49: Shonte Simpson went 3-for-3 from three-point range and scored 15 points, but the Tigers (1-12, 0-4) fell to the Dukes (10-3, 4-0) in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup in Harrisonburg, Va.

Western Maryland 75, Eastern 56: Jen Piccolomini scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to pace the Green Terror (9-3) past the Eagles in a nonconference game.

Fayetteville State 92, Bowie State 58: Rachill Robinson scored 20 in a losing effort as the Lady Bulldogs were beaten by the Lady Broncos (7-4).

CND 66, Wilson 34: Karen Burley scored 16 points as the host Gators routed the Phoenix.
