Howard hospital wins grant for program in nurse retention

Howard County General Hospital has received a grant of $18,311 from Maryland's Health Services Cost Review Commission to support the hospital's participation in a Nurse Manager Leadership Institute.

In conjunction with the Association of Maryland Hospitals and Health Systems and the Maryland Health Care Education Institute, the Howard hospital joined 20 others in seeking funding for the nurse managers' program, which emphasizes retention of staff nurses.

Federal Reserve official is King observance speaker

Roger W. Ferguson Jr., vice chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System, will be the main speaker at a Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at Long Reach High School in Columbia.

Ferguson has served as chairman of the Joint Year 2000 Council and chairman of the Group of Ten (G-10) countries' Working Party on Financial Sector Consolidation.

Kai Jackson, co-anchor for WJZ-TV 13 in Baltimore, will be master of ceremonies.

Developing proposals: Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center and F.M.
