Police investigate fatal stabbing of Brooklyn man, 43

January 06, 2002|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A 43-year-old Brooklyn man was fatally stabbed last night, becoming the city's third homicide victim of the year, and police charged a 32-year-old East Baltimore woman with murder in an earlier, unrelated homicide.

Police said the man, whom they would not identify until kin were notified, was stabbed about 8:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Dantrey Court in Brooklyn, where he lived with his girlfriend.

He was stabbed several times in the upper torso, police said, and died at Harbor Hospital Center.

Homicide detectives took his girlfriend into custody for questioning, but had not charged her as of last night.

In the earlier stabbing, police charged Yavonda S. Jones of the 800 block of N. Chester St. with first-degree murder in the death of Laronda Jones, 33, who lived at the same address.

Police said the two women, who are not related, got into an argument that escalated into violence.

Laronda Jones, the city's second homicide victim of the year, was cut in the stomach about 10 p.m. Friday night and died at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Police would not say what kind of weapon was used.
