Could there have been a better way to raise money for The Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease than to throw a soiree at a health club?
Some 800 health-conscious folks didn't think so, as they partied the night away in the Maryland Athletic Club & Wellness Center at "Sweats & Sneakers." They danced around the weight machines to the music of a DJ in one room, and in another room boogied near the treadmills to a live Calypso beat. Meanwhile, some guests got their hearts racing by playing casino-style games.
Among the casually clad crew who chose to party heart-y: Julianne Carroll, event chair; Wendy Baker, Jen Carle, Mark Greene, Susan Douglan and Cathy Moylan, event committee members; Ed Speno, Ciccarone Center board chair; Marty Speno, Dr. Ken Baughman, Dr. Gary Gerstenblith, Bill and Florence Kelly, Harriett Little, Caitlin Nass and Dr. Wendy Post, board members; Dr. Roger Blumenthal, Ciccarone Center director; Tim and Liz Rhode, MAC & Wellness Center co-owners; Martha Palmer, UPN 24 account executive; Rimi Drigan, Perot Systems business development director; Ray Koontz, Systems Alliance vice president; Ray Daue, HRH Insurance vice president; Dave Durian, WBAL Radio morning show host; Sean Hearn, S. Joseph Advertising president; Jay Pivec, Pivec Advertising vice president; Tiffany Hoag-Colimore, Burger King franchisee; Vanessa O'Brey, Astrazeneca pharmaceutical sales specialist; Gretchen Townsend, Johns Hopkins Hospital registered nurse; Bryan Peiffer, community volunteer; Frank Majerowicz, CryMed Technologies president / owner; Steve Wagner, Farmers Insurance vice president; Linda Haddaway, 7-Eleven franchise owner; and Dr. Kelly Foster, Timonium Dental owner.
The healthy hullabaloo raised more than heart rates -- it brought in some $20,000 for the Ciccarone Center.
