Maryland General Hospital

MARYLAND SCENE

December 16, 2001|By Sloane Brown

Take equal parts Pimlico and Las Vegas. Place into Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Mix well. Serve immediately. Result? "The Fourth Running of the Maryland General Gala." Serves 400.

As glittery guests arrived at the Maryland General Hospital fund-raiser, they were greeted by "Elvis" and invited to pose for photos with him against a Las Vegas backdrop. A variety of casino-style games and simulated horse races awaited inside the ballroom. Scores of dinner tables with centerpieces of red roses and Gerbera daisies, white snapdragons and orchids, accented by swizzles of silver furthered the festive mood.

Among those betting on an entertaining evening: Dr. John Manzari, event chair; Ethel Anderson, Gloria Cinquegrani, Gail Smith and Teresa Stephens, event committee members; Fred Kelly, Maryland General Health Systems Inc. board chair; Dr. Susan Guarnieri, board member; Tim Miller, Maryland General Hospital president / CEO; Dr. Bill Anthony, Maryland General Hospital chief of medicine; Joan McWilliams, Maryland General Hospital director of nursing; Lou Mazzulli, Hospital Support Services president; Orlando Brown, USB Bank manager; Dr. Junhui Gong, Maryland General Hospital internist; Dr. Qiuming Wei, Johns Hopkins engineering research scientist; Jim Plunkett, Baltimore department of transportation project engineer; Len Homer, Ober Kaler attorney; William Russell, of the law firm Mudd Harrison and Burch; Terry Bowles, U.S. Food Service truck driver; Lynda Ruff, Harbor City High School teacher; and Betsy Homer, Maryland State Highway Administration retired deputy administrator.

The party raised $140,000 for Maryland General Hospital.
