Condor wins $50 million, 5-year Guard contract

Balto. firm to provide communications, technical services

Condor Interactive Communications of Baltimore has won a $50 million contract with the U.S. Army National Guard Bureau to provide technical and communications services over the next five years.

Officials for the company, a division of Baltimore-based Condor Technology Solutions Inc., said they could provide no details on strategy so early in the process. The marketing communications campaign is expected to begin early next year.

"We will absolutely be playing on a national level in a very important strategic program," Condor Vice President Mike Louden said yesterday. "It's a validation of the solution sets we bring to the market."

The contract covers providing advertising services to support the National Guard's recruitment and retention efforts in each of the 50 states and four U.S. territories. Condor was among six candidates for the business.

According to a Defense Department list of contract awards, Condor will provide services including planning, buying and placing of advertising for theaters, the outdoors and the Internet.

Experienced in government work, Condor currently has a five-year, $20 million contract with the Veterans Health Administration to provide call center services. The company also has related contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Other government clients include the Department of Justice, Department of the Navy, NASA and the Department of Agriculture.

"We do quite a bit of work for the federal government," Louden said. "Being based in Baltimore has been a very attractive location from which to seek federal government business."

Founded in 1998, Condor Technology Solutions provides Web development, contact center services, business intelligence and marketing communications. The company, with annual revenue of about $90 million, has about 400 employees at five offices in the Northeast.

Condor's client list includes Boise-Cascade Office Products Corp., based in Chicago; Pittsburgh-based General Nutrition Centers, a specialty retailer of vitamins and supplements; and Software Spectrum Inc., a Dallas-based software services provider.
