A 42-year-old Sykesville woman charged with drunken driving and eight other counts stemming from a traffic accident was released yesterday on $10,000 bail.

State police say that Brenda Lee Sawyer of the 4700 block of Bartholow Road was driving her minivan early Tuesday when it rear-ended a parked state police cruiser.

Sawyer has been convicted of drunken driving nine times in Maryland.

A court commissioner, noting Sawyer's record and the fact that she had been released from jail Nov. 8, initially set bail at $250,0000. The commissioner said these factors made Sawyer a danger to herself and others.

A Carroll County District Court judge reduced the bail Wednesday to $10,000, saying that Sawyer had never failed to appear for a court date and had promised to seek treatment for alcohol abuse.

Lt. Terry L. Katz, commander of the state police barracks in Westminster, said authorities would be notified to ensure Sawyer doesn't drive.

Police said Trooper Rebecca Bosley was treated for whiplash after the accident and her car was left inoperable after it was struck about 1 a.m. Tuesday, when she stopped on the shoulder of Liberty Road near Georgetown Boulevard.
