Man who shot at officer in Havre de Grace sought

November 29, 2001|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Havre de Grace police were looking yesterday for a driver who fired shots at an officer Tuesday night, a police spokesman said.

About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Jason Forsmark saw a 1996 gold Ford Aspire - which had been reported stolen by the Harford County Sheriff's Office - westbound on Route 155, said spokesman John Van Gilder.

The car had also been involved in a pursuit earlier involving Aberdeen police, said Sgt. Steve Smith, Aberdeen police spokesman.

When Forsmark tried to stop the car, the driver turned onto Bayview Drive, where he fired shots at Forsmark before losing control of the Ford and crashing into a parked van in the 1800 block of Bayview Drive, Van Gilder said.

The man fled on foot after firing another shot at Forsmark, Van Gilder said. The officer was not hit.

Anyone with information was asked to call Havre de Grace police at 410-939-2121.
