County Executive Owens to attend holiday tree-lighting ceremony today

Glen Burnie residents and County Executive Janet S. Owens will celebrate the holiday season with a tree-lighting ceremony at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Glen Burnie Town Center's central plaza, Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and Crain Highway. The event will include a demonstration at the Town Center ice skating rink.

Free parking will be available during the event at the Town Center parking garage on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard.

Last year was the first time in thirty years that holiday decorations were displayed in downtown Glen Burnie. Glen Burnie Improvement Association, Northern Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County Housing Commission, Anne Arundel Community College, Anne Arundel County government, Glen Burnie Town Apartments, Glen Burnie High School and area businesses united to renew the tradition.

Mall fund-raiser to help families of attack victims

Throughout the holiday season, Marley Station mall is offering shopping bags with a patriotic design to raise scholarship money for the children and spouses of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The bags are available for $1 at the mall's customer service desk.

Proceeds will go to the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, which was formed to provide financial assistance to children and spouses of victims of the attacks.
