North Carroll gets into holiday swing

THE HOLIDAY SEASON will be in full swing this weekend and next as North Carroll community groups sponsor the first of many events.

The annual Christmas Bazaar held by residents of Long View Nursing Home in Manchester will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Crafts, pillows, wreaths, ceramics, plants, woodworking and other holiday items will be offered. A baked goods and rummage table will be available.

This year's raffle will feature a handmade patch and embroidery quilt for first prize; a crocheted Christmas afghan, second prize; a 3-foot snowman, third prize; and a Christmas musical carousel, fourth prize. All proceeds benefit the patient activity fund.

Cygnus Cellars of Manchester will hold its Classic Method Sparkling Wine Tasting and Sale this weekend.

The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the vineyard at 3130 Long Lane.

The vineyard's Royele Hampton Cuvee Brut Rose and Royele Cuvee de Chardonnay, made from 100 percent Chardonnay grapes, will be featured. These sparkling wines are made in the French style.

Hors d'oeuvres and classical music will accompany the wine tastings. The event is free, but reservations are requested. Information: 410-374-6395.

A Santa's Helpers square dance is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at North Carroll High School.

The event is sponsored by Carroll Promenaders, a local modern western square dance club. Participants are asked to take caps, mittens and scarves to hang on the tree for children.

The cost is $4. Youths are welcome. Visiting clubs should take a roster. The school is at 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead.

Shrimp sale

St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hampstead is offering frozen Gulf of Mexico shrimp in 5-pound bags. Each bag contains 26 to 30 shrimp.

The price is estimated at $45.

Blood drive

Blood donors may register with the American Red Cross to donate from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

The collection site is the multipurpose room at Grace Bible Church of North Carroll, 3250 Charmil Drive, between Manchester and Hampstead off Route 30.

Donors may give every 56 days. New restrictions apply to those who have traveled outside the United States since 1980. Donors are advised to prepare a travel record showing the number of days spent in foreign countries for a research study.
