Where Maryland stands

Maryland ranked third nationally in 1999 for safety belt usage. Over 82 percent of Maryland drivers wear safety belts, a Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found. Only motorists in California and New Mexico used safety belts more frequently. On average, 67 percent of Americans use seat belts while driving.
