Basketball league accepting entries for 2002 season

The Carroll County Men's Basketball League is accepting team entries for the 2002 season.

Games are played at East Middle School gym in Westminster from January to March.

Divisions of play are: Monday and Tuesday nights, unlimited; Wednesday nights, over 30 (B level); and Thursday nights, over 30 (A level).

Team entry fee is $525 before Dec. 14; after that date, the cost is $575.

Piney Run Nature Center offers holiday trip to Pa.

Piney Run Nature Center is offering wildlife and nature programs for all ages.

A trip by van will be taken from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania for the holiday light show and Christmas caroling. Participants pay for park rides and other activities. Dinner will be at a family restaurant on the return trip. The cost is $10.

Outdoor Rangers is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5-6, Jan. 10 or 16 and Feb. 13-14 for children ages 6 to 9. Children will learn about nature through hikes, games, crafts and indoor activities. The cost is $15.

Bear Branch center plans environmental programs

Bear Branch Nature Center offers informative environmental programs for all ages.

Critter Dinner Time will be held at 2 p.m. today. Visitors can watch the center's turtles, salamanders, frogs and birds of prey being fed.

Habitat Safari for ages 6-8 will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Children will learn about animal habitats through stories, crafts and hikes. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Nature Stories and Crafts for ages 2-6 will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. A story and craft will be featured. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Lanterns and Luminarias offers a chance for ages 12 to adult to make a candleholder from cans and jars (bring your own, and a hammer) from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Some materials will be provided. The cost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

Nature Moves, a music and movement class for children ages 2 to 6 years old, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Nature songs, finger plays and movement activities will be featured. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Animal Inventions for children age 5 to 13 will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 2. Children will learn about inventions that were inspired by the abilities of animals. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Movies and Munchies for all ages will be at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 6. A nature movie will be shown. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Owl Prowl night hike to search for different breeds of owl will be Dec. 7. A session for all ages will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. A session for ages 8 to adult will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Nature's Patterns for ages 6 and older will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 8. Children will use natural objects to make homemade wrapping paper. The cost is $3 for members and $4 for nonmembers.

Registration is required for programs. The center is at 300 John Owings Road, Westminster.

Collectible trains and toys to be featured in show

Greenberg Shows Inc. of Sykesville will hold a 25th anniversary Great Train and Collectible Toy Show Saturday and Dec. 2 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 6 to 12, and is good for both days. Scouts in uniform will be admitted free.

Brice and Linda Greenberg, founders of Greenberg Publishing and Greenberg Shows, will cut an anniversary cake at 2 p.m. Saturday. Greenberg books specialize in toy train collecting through Kalmbach Publishing Co.

In addition to hundreds of vendors offering trains and accessories in all scale sizes, operating layouts from local model railroading clubs and informative how-to clinics on creative train gardens will be among the featured attractions.

A hobby marketplace and how-to hobby clinics also will be offered.
