Rape-crisis service poinsettia orders due by tomorrow

Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County is holding its annual poinsettia sale Dec. 4 and 5. Orders must be placed by tomorrow.

Available flowers include: 6-inch pot for $6.50; 7-inch pot for $11; 8-inch pot for $16; 10-inch basket for $20. A 5-inch potted begonia is available for $6. Plants are available in red, white, pink, plum pudding or "jingle bells" (red with a white strip). A combination of colors is available in the 8-inch pot.

All orders must be prepaid. Orders of more than $80 will be delivered to offices within Carroll County. Other orders should be picked up between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 4 or 5 at Rape Crisis, 224 N. Center St., Westminster. Information: 410-857-0900.

Hospital's Tree of Lights ceremony set for tomorrow

Carroll County General Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual Tree of Lights ceremony at 7 p.m. tomorrow in front of the hospital.

This fund-raiser to support hospital projects and programs honors those who have made a difference in people's lives. Honorees will be named in a Book of Honor to be displayed in the hospital lobby next month and January.

The cost of lights in memory or honor of someone is $5 for individuals, $10 for families, $25 for clubs or organizations, and $100 for businesses.

Donations will be accepted through Jan. 15. Checks can be made payable to CCGH Auxiliary, Tree of Lights, and mailed to 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster 21157.

Health Department plans car-safety seats checks

Carroll County Health Department will hold a child car-safety seat check from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Mount Airy fire hall, 702 N. Main St.

The safety seat check is sponsored by Safe Kids/CRASH Coalition.

Staff will check for proper installation of safety seats and answer questions about car seats.

Bingo fund-raiser helps breast cancer research

The Carroll Collectors Club of Carrolltowne Cards and Gifts recently held a bingo dinner and raised $7,500 for the Breast Center at Carroll County General Hospital.

The club raised $3,400 for the center at a similar event last year.

The Carroll Collectors Club was started in 1996 by the store in Carrolltown Center. More than 20 members collect a range of ornaments, dolls, teddy bears, model race cars and Santa Claus figurines.

As the club has grown, members have wanted to support an organization in the community, said President Herb Marques.

The Breast Center provides comprehensive services to women before and after the diagnosis of breast cancer.


Compassionate Friends Infants Group, a Carroll County group for parents grieving the loss of a child by miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death, will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster Church of the Brethren, Bond Street. Information: 410-321-7053.

Carroll County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet for discussion and support from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Senior Center, 125 Stoner Ave. Gail Jones, Guardianship Program coordinator for the Carroll County Bureau of Aging, will discuss advanced directives and guardianship. The VA Maryland Health Care System mobile health clinic will be stationed at Mount Airy Senior Center, 703 Ridge Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
