A POST-Thanksgiving tradition continues in Manchester on Friday evening with a tree-lighting ceremony, business open houses and other festivities.
The holiday celebration begins at 6 p.m. with the tree lighting at Manchester Town Hall on York Street.
Manchester Elementary School pupils will decorate the tree with ornaments they made in art class. Usually the ornaments are made from natural and household materials, such as peanut butter, birdseed and pine cones.
After the tree lighting, Manchester Area Merchants Association will award prizes in the annual Holiday House Decorating Contest.
Association members plan to visit contestants tonight to select three winners. Prizes of $75, $50 and $25 will be awarded.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Trinity United Church of Christ on York Street will light the large-scale creche in a ceremony.
At 7:30 p.m., a choir including members of four Manchester churches will sing songs on the steps of BB&T Bank at Main and York streets.
Merchants will offer refreshments.
Information: Manchester Town Office, 410-239-3200.
