Millersville keeps Bowie at bay

Senior guard Jen Smith scored a career-high 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting and the Millersville women's basketball team held on for an 82-78 victory over visiting Bowie State last night.

The Millers (1-2) also got 21 points from Morgan Banks, who also shot 7-for-13 from the field. Kristy Garner was the only other Millersville player in double figures with 10 points.

The Millers had a 10-point first-half lead, but the Bulldogs (0-3) crept back into it, thanks to the play of Tamara Barnes and Mona-Gail Baker.

Baker shot 9-for-17 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line for 26 points, and had 10 rebounds. Barnes was 10-for-19 for 22 points.

Allyson Hardy added 15 points for Bowie State.
