Accounting course, business plan seminar offered by SCORE

SCORE Chapter 390 will conduct a one-day workshop, "Business Accounting Made Easy," from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Chesapeake Room of Heritage Complex, 2664 Riva Road, Annapolis. Those who attend will learn how to start and maintain a balanced set of books to meet IRS requirements and how to make a business more profitable. The fee is $45. Reservations: 410-266-9553.

A seminar, "Let's Prepare a Business Plan," will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Heritage Complex. Participants will learn to develop plans with the guidance of an expert. The fee is $45. Registration: 410-266-9553.

Design award: 818 Studio Inc., an Annapolis firm that provides design, marketing and Web development services, has won two American Graphic Design Awards for their entries in a design competition for the magazine Graphic Design:USA. The firm won for its identity and stationary package for Horizon Builders, a custom homebuilder in Crofton. Graphic Design: USA is a national monthly news and information magazine that serves the professional design community, advertising agencies and multimedia development companies.

Receives grant: The Historic London Town and Gardens in Edgewater has received a $99,959 grant for a series of outdoor exhibits about colonial agriculture and seaport life and for the reconstruction of Lord Mayor's Tenement, a 1690 dwelling. The grant was awarded by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority Financing Fund of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

Coffee bar opens: Donna's Coffee Bar cafe and Coffee Bar, a chain in the Baltimore metropolitan area and Washington, has opened a cafe inside Borders Books & Music at the Annapolis Mall. Hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
