A high school football player injured in a game and a 16-year-old struck in a hit-and-run accident were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center last night after separate incidents at Meade High School in Anne Arundel County.

An Old Mill player, junior D.J. Wheeler, suffered head injuries when he was injured during the game, said Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. George Wiseman.

A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured about 9:40 p.m. by a car in the parking lot that witnesses said had been spinning in circles at 40 mph, Wiseman said. He briefly regained consciousness before being taken by ambulance to Shock Trauma with injuries to his head and chest.

Wiseman said friends of the 16-year-old became angry with paramedics as they treated him at the scene, attacking the ambulance and pulling the handle off of a door.
