World Community Day at church tomorrow

Church Women United will hold its annual World Community Day Celebration at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Uniontown United Methodist Church.

The speaker will be Pat Kennedy from Human Services Programs of Carroll County.

Union Bridge firefighters to hold bingo banquet

Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company will hold a bingo banquet starting at 6 p.m. Saturday in the fire hall.

A buffet will be served at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $22.50 and include a card package. Seating is reserved, by advance ticket sales only.

Harry Potter, adult crafts planned at library branch

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, is offering a variety of programs this month.

"Year-round Family Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) will be held at 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday (Nov. 21, "Shapes") and 11 a.m. every Thursday (today, "Black and White"; no story time Nov. 22).

"Harry Potter Crafts" for ages 4 to 10 will be held at 4 p.m. today.

"Adult Craft Night" will be held at 6:30 p.m. today and Nov. 29. Participants can bring projects for help and conversation about crafts.

"Elmo" for all ages will celebrate Elmo with songs, stories and crafts at 11 a.m. Saturday.

"Drop-in Crafts" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Taneytown Book Club for adults will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss Alice's Tulips by Sandra Dallas.

Fire company auxiliary plans Christmas bazaar

Pleasant Valley Community Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual Christmas in the Valley holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the fire hall.

Handmade crafts, paintings, wood items, florals, jewelry, ceramics, candles, seasonal items and gifts will be featured.

Holiday baked goods and food will be available, including the auxiliary's cheese balls.

The fire station's train garden will be on display. The garden is open from noon to 4 p.m. every weekend through Dec. 30.

Community service set on Thanksgiving eve

The New Windsor Community Thanksgiving Eve worship service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

The ecumenical service will include music by the Community Chorus and New Life for Girls.

Area clergy and community leaders will participate. The offering will go to New Life for Girls to assist its ministry of helping troubled young women.

Messiah church to be host for Taneytown service

Messiah United Methodist Church will be host for the Taneytown ecumenical Thanksgiving service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sponsored by Caring and Sharing Ministries, the service will feature participation from area pastors. The Rev. LoisAnn Ferges-Oller will be the main speaker.

The offering will benefit Caring and Sharing Ministries.

Basket bingo scheduled by Valley Lions Club

Valley Lions Club of Pleasant Valley will hold Longaberger basket bingo Nov. 24 at the Pleasant Valley fire hall.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and games will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door for one set of cards for 20 games. Additional cards, specials and raffles will be available.

Food will be sold. Proceeds benefit community service projects.
