Center program to explain special education services

The Partners for Success Resource Center, a program for parents and teachers of children with disabilities in Anne Arundel County, will present a program, "Understanding Special Education," from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Millersville Elementary School, 1601 Millersville Road.

Special education resource teacher Barbara Jones and parent liaison Debbie Wetzel will discuss assessment, testing and placement for children receiving special education help. Also on the agenda will be the development of individual education programs and why children receive these services.

Kinder Farm Park plans blacksmithing program

Kinder Farm Park will present a program, "Introduction to Blacksmithing," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the park. Blacksmith Terry Steel will teach participants the basic steps of forging and techniques for working and bending metal. He will teach students to hammer, compress and slit metal; the methods of joining metal; and how to set up a blacksmith shop.

Steel designed and built a 350-foot fence with two gates for author Stephen King. He also built and designed a cathedral gate for the National City Christian Church in Washington and the Northway Christian Church in Dallas. He has been blacksmithing since 1971.

Advance registration is required. Those who attend must be 18 or older. The program fee is $100.

"Nutcracker" performers: Millersville residents Nicholas Carter, Kendall Wilson, Michelle Paternoster and Katie Rabaglia will play roles in the Ballet Theatre of Maryland's production of The Nutcracker next month.

Trade fair: The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce holds its free holiday trade fair from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company hall. Holiday boutique: The Berrywood Women's Club, a community civic organization, holds its holiday boutique from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the boutique, in the Berrywood Clubhouse on Berrywood Drive in Severna Park. The event will feature woodwork items, holiday decorations and home-baked foods. Sales will benefit Berrywood playground improvements. Information: 410-647-8009.

School craft show: The Old Mill High School Band Boosters Association has scheduled a fall benefit craft show for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school cafeteria, 600 Patriot Lane in Millersville. Crafters will display holiday items such as floral arrangements, woodcrafts, stitchery, hand-painted items and jewelry. Baked goods and other food will be available. Information: 410-729-3052.

Church bazaar: Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church has planned its 60th Annual Woods Holiday Bazaar for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 611 Baltimore & Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park.
