Good, bad and ugly

November 13, 2001|By Ken Murray

The good: A week after his fourth-down gamble nearly cost the Jets a win, coach Herman Edwards rolled the dice on fourth-and-one against Kansas City and got a 25-yard touchdown run by Curtis Martin for a 14-0 lead.

The bad: Dolphins DE Lorenzo Bromell's helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts QB Peyton Manning that left Manning's mouth bleeding.

The ugly: Green Bay's Chris Akins knocked down Chicago's Larry Whigham on a Bears punt, then appeared to throw at least two punches while Whigham was on the ground. Whigham got up and retaliated with a shot to Akins' head, for which he drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected.
