Wesley Freedom United Methodist to hold holiday bazaar Saturday

Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eldersburg church.

The event will feature handmade holiday crafts, gifts and decorations, greenery, pinecone wreaths, angel trees, bird feeders and other items.

The bazaar will include a white elephant room. A Kids Only Room will offer affordable gift shopping for children. Santa Claus will be available for visits and photos.

The church bell choir and other groups will offer holiday entertainment throughout the day, and the Yuletide Cafe will sell hot drinks and food. Lunch, including an oyster platter, will be served starting at 11 a.m. Breads, pies, cookies, cakes, jams, nuts, candies and cheese balls will be sold.

Crafts show scheduled Saturday at Liberty High

Liberty High School Instrumental Music Boosters will hold its 16th annual pre-holiday crafts show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school in Eldersburg.

More than 150 vendors will offer crafts, holiday gifts and decorations. Refreshments will be available.

The cost is $1. Children younger than age 12 will be admitted free. No strollers will be permitted by order of the fire marshal.

Sykesville karate program to hold sign-up next week

Ake No Myojo Budo (Morning Star Martial Arts), sponsored by Sykesville Parks and Recreation, will hold registration for shorinjiryu karate classes Monday and Nov. 21, 30 minutes before classes.

Parents and PeeWees classes (for children ages 5 to 7 accompanied by parents) are held at 6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes for other age groups are at 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are held at Sykesville Middle School.

Shorinjiryu karate is a dynamic style of karate suitable for all ages.

Eldersburg library branch to offer book club, crafts

Eldersburg library branch, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, has announced programs.

"Harry Potter Crafts" for ages 4 to 10 will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, 7 p.m. tomorrow and 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

"Basic Internet Training: What Is the Internet and What Can it Do for Me?" for adults will be offered at 2 p.m. Friday. Registration is required.

Eldersburg Book Club for adults will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday to discuss The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan.

"Books and Beyond - Creating Civilizations with Weslandia" for ages 7 to 10 will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Participants will read a book and do hands-on activities.

Habitat for Humanity to meet Thursday evening

Habitat for Humanity in Carroll County will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Mike Geiger, 1608 Heather Heights Road, Eldersburg.

Habitat for Humanity is a community-based effort that provides housing for the needy.

Volunteers are needed to help with construction, organization, communications and fund raising for homebuilding projects. The contributions of businesses and faith communities are welcome.

Berenstain Bears to visit Eldersburg mall Thursday

Carrolltown Center in Eldersburg has announced the following events.

Kids Club will meet at 10 a.m. today. "Creative Turkeys" will be the theme. Children will make a turkey craft. The event will include stories, songs and finger plays. Participants are asked to bring a canned good to donate to a local food drive.

Northwest Hospital Center will offer blood pressure screenings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow.

The Berenstain Bears will visit the food court at Carrolltown Center at 7 p.m. Thursday for "Bedtime with the Berenstain Bears." Children are welcome to attend in their pajamas for a snack, Berenstain Bears stories and to have a picture taken with Brother and Sister Bear.

The cost is $5 per child, and includes one photo. Reservations are required by tomorrow.
