State officials plan meeting Thursday on transportation plans

TOWSON - State Department of Transportation officials plan to meet Thursday with local officials and residents to discuss transportation projects in Baltimore County.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the County Council Chambers on the second floor of the Old Courthouse, 400 Washington Ave.

Benefit pancake breakfast set Sunday at fire company

KINGSVILLE - A pancake breakfast to benefit Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the fire station on Bellvue Avenue.

In Baltimore City

Community Health Fair to be held Thursday

The 1st District Human Services Center, with several local health institutions, will sponsor a Community Health Fair on Thursday at Abbott Memorial Church, 3426 Bank St.

The health fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Health screenings and free information to educate families on health issues will be featured.

Women can receive free breast cancer screenings and tests for the presence of lead in children's systems will also be available. Childhood immunization shots will be provided by the city Health Department's Immunization Van.

Donations for food drive accepted at subway stops

The Maryland Transit Administration is accepting donations of nonperishable food at its 14 Metro stations in metropolitan Baltimore through Friday.

Because of security concerns, MTA will not accept bagged donations, and asks that people donate individual cans or boxes of food.

Free workshop offers tips on doing business with city

People interested in learning how to do business with the city are welcome at a workshop from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Pleasant View Gardens Community Center, 201 N. Aisquith St.

The free workshop, sponsored by the Department of Housing and Community Development and the Housing Authority of Baltimore City, will focus on topics such as bidding on contracts, providing professional services and supplies, bonding, insurance, the city's procurement process and minority business certification.
