Organizations plan forum about running for public office

The League of Women Voters and Vision - Howard County will sponsor a forum for prospective and declared candidates and their campaign teams - "Thought about Running for Public Office?" - from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

Former County Executive Charles I. Ecker, school board member Sandra French, Councilman C. Vernon Gray and Register of Wills Kay Hartleb will discuss "The Decision to Run," including motivation, time commitment, surprises and what it takes to be an effective officeholder.

"Organizing the Campaign and Reaching the Voter" will be discussed by campaign strategist Joan Athen, former school board member Anne Dodd, journalist Len Lazarick, political analyst Brad Coker and direct-mail marketing specialist Melinda Hamilton.

Vision - Howard County is a nonprofit civic organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in the county. Both organizations work to encourage participation in the civic life of Howard County.
