Wildland fires in Harford, Allegany under control

Firefighters yesterday wrested control over fires that have raged through hundreds of acres of western and northeastern Maryland.

At the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County, Assistant Fire Chief Steve R. Gibson said that nearly all the flames on 1,500 acres of restricted test ranges have been extinguished but that some "hot spots" remain.

In Allegany County, fire officials said they are monitoring hot spots in more than 350 acres.
