BJ's new store in Westminster has grand opening

BJ's Wholesale Club held its grand opening yesterday at 820 Market St., Westminster.

The 108,000-square-foot store is BJ's seventh Maryland location. It employs about 140 people. Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Cigar-making craft to be demonstrated

Westminster Cigar Co. will hold a Cuban cigar-rolling event Friday to demonstrate the art of crafting handmade cigars.

Grade 7 master roller Raul Aguilera and cigar maker Nicholas Perdomo Jr., president and chief executive officer of the cigar manufacturer Tabacalara Perdomo, will attend.

2 Carroll businesses plan Hallmark open houses

Diane's Hallmark Shoppe in Taneytown Shopping Center and the News Center in Freedom Village Shopping Center in Eldersburg will hold a Hallmark Holiday Open House during business hours Saturday and Nov. 11.

Patrons will have the opportunity to buy the 2001 Coca-Cola Santa musical snow globe at a reduced price with card purchase.

Other specials on limited-edition holiday items also will be available, including Hallmark Kiss Kiss Bears.

Networking group plans meeting for Nov. 14

Business Networking Group will meet Nov. 14 at Fat Cat Cafe, at East Main and Center streets in Westminster.

Networking will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch and a business meeting.

The group promotes personal and professional growth through networking and exposure to the issues and concerns of business professionals.

Workshops for job seekers planned at resource center

Carroll County Business and Employment Resource Center is offering workshops and programs to help individuals who may be seeking a job or a new career.

Programs include:

"Starting Your Own Business." Mike Fish will offer tips on exploring business ventures and aspects of starting a business from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 19.

"Professional Cover Letters and Resumes." Three workshops will teach participants how to write a proper cover letter and resume. "Introduction to Resumes" will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19. A resume update will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 20. "Job Search Letter Workshop" will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21.

Farm museum offers use of new tea parlor

The Carroll County Farm Museum's new Victorian tea parlor is available for rent.

The parlor is available Dec. 11-21 for small office parties or family holiday gatherings.

The parlor, set in the museum's farmhouse, will feature holiday music and a private tour of the historic house for $5. The farmhouse will be decorated in a "hunt style" theme for the holiday.

Parties also are served tea and a fruit tart. Reservations are required.

The tea parlor will be available year-round by reservation.

Pa. roofing company ranked 68th in nation

Donald B. Smith Roofing Inc. of Hanover, Pa., has been named to the top-100 roofing contractors in America in the October issue of RSI magazine.

Smith Roofing was ranked 68th with $7.2 million in annual sales. The company employs 60 people and hopes to increase its employee base by 20 percent over the next year.

Smith Roofing completes residential, industrial and commercial roofing projects in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
