Session to examine the adopted child's school experience

Families with Children from China Central Maryland and the Center for Adoption Support and Education will sponsor a workshop, "Adoption and Your Child's World at School," from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Owen Brown Community Center, 6800 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.

Topics to be discussed include how children understand adoption at different ages, factors that affect adopted children in the school environment and suggestions for creating a school free of bias about adoption.

The cost is $5.

Etiquette class for kids to start tomorrow

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer a social etiquette class for children at Worthington Elementary School.

Topics will include greetings and handshakes, common courtesies, public etiquette and acts of kindness and respect.

A class for children ages 8 to 11 begins at 3:55 p.m. tomorrow; a class for young people ages 12 to 16 will be at 5 p.m.

The cost is $76.

Rouse Scholars Program to be meeting's focus

Howard Community College will hold an information evening about the James W. Rouse Scholars Program at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the college's Smith Theatre, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

The two-year honors and leadership program includes seminars and activities emphasizing civic responsibility, volunteerism and the cultural arts. Students who complete the program can transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

A series of high-school nights for prospective students and their parents will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and Feb. 7, 14 and 21.

The college's programs and services will be discussed. Included will be the Freshman Focus, Rouse Scholars, Silas Craft Collegians, Summer Scholars and Early Entrance programs and financial aid.

Participants will have an opportunity to tour the campus.
